I have worked for Freespace since 2003. I initially worked at an outreach service in Broxburn as a support worker. I was eventually promoted to senior support worker and moved to Edinburgh to manage a small service as DSM at Trafalgar Street.
In 2010 I became DSM for a new service at Western Harbour supporting 6 young people with learning difficulties to live in their own homes for the first time. This was not without its challenges but I have enjoyed working with these young people and their families to ensure that they are settled and feel secure and happy in their new homes. This past year Western Harbour has grown to 8 tenants and 1 outreach at Newhaven Road.
I have gained qualifications in HEC in person centred approaches and Leading others.
My favourite memory is; the parents of one of our members being at a party organised by Freespace and the look of joy on their faces watching their daughter being confident and really getting involved with all the other folks there. This will stay with me forever.
Freespace is a fantastic organization to work for and is focused on ensuring that all the people we support get the best lives they can. At Western Harbour I have a very committed staff team that have our members welfare at the heart of all they do.
